Module 1 is the gatekeeper of Digital SAT scoring. Your performance determines whether Module 2 unlocks a top score or caps you on the easier path. This guide gives you a concrete Module 1 playbook for both Reading & Writing and Math.

The Module 1 Mindset

Goal: Maximize correct answers on questions you are capable of answering — not finish every question.

Module 1 is not where you take risks on hard inference or multi-step word problems. It is where you bank points on grammar, basic algebra, and straightforward data questions.

Reading & Writing Module 1 (27 questions, 32 min)

Question Order Strategy

1. First pass (20 min): Answer every grammar/conventions question and any passage question you can solve in under 60 seconds.
2. Flag (not skip): Hard inference, cross-text connections, and synthesis questions.
3. Second pass (12 min): Return to flagged questions. Guess on anything still unresolved.

High-Leverage Module 1 Tactics

• Read the question before the passage on inference items — you often need only 2–3 sentences.
• Eliminate two choices immediately on vocabulary questions, then compare remaining options.
• Never spend 3+ minutes on one question in Module 1 — flag it.

Math Module 1 (22 questions, 35 min)

Question Order Strategy

1. First pass: All single-step algebra, data analysis, and geometry questions.
2. Use Desmos immediately on systems, intersections, and graph-based questions.
3. Flag multi-step word problems and unfamiliar advanced math.
4. Second pass: Grid-ins and flagged items.

High-Leverage Module 1 Tactics

• Plug in (C) or (D) on multiple-choice algebra — saves setup time.

Common Module 1 Mistakes

1. Treating Module 1 like a speed drill — rushing causes careless errors on easy questions.

Take Module 1 only from Bluebook Practice Test 1 under strict time:

• R&W: 32 minutes, stop at the bell
• Math: 35 minutes, stop at the bell
