About AP Practice Exam Online
AP Practice Exam Online is a free educational platform that mimics the official College Board Digital SAT Bluebook experience. Students practice the SAT by uploading PDFs and solving multiple-choice and grid-in questions module by module, with adaptive Module 2 routing and a built-in Desmos calculator on Math. The interface is modeled on the real Bluebook app so practice transfers cleanly to test day.
How we verify content
Study guides, exam format pages, and score calculators on this site are cross-checked against official College Board Course and Exam Descriptions (AP) and Digital SAT documentation. Each guide lists primary sources and a verification date when facts change for a new exam cycle.
- Exam dates, section weights, and question counts follow published College Board schedules.
- Score calculators use official MCQ/FRQ weights — not classroom curves.
- We update guides when College Board announces format changes (e.g. fully digital FRQs).

Why we built this
The Digital SAT runs entirely inside the College Board Bluebook application. Many students walk in having never practiced inside that interface and lose time learning the layout instead of answering questions. AP Practice Exam Online gives every student a free way to drill SAT modules in a Bluebook-style environment.
We focus on the parts students struggle with at the actual SAT: navigating modules, marking questions for review, grid-in entry, and using the Desmos calculator inside Math. The platform handles question extraction, MCQ vs grid-in detection, and scaled-score approximation so you can focus on pacing and content.
How AI scoring works
1. PDF analysis
When you upload a PDF, Gemini reads the document, splits SAT modules, detects MCQ vs grid-in, and extracts every question with its options or numeric prompt.
2. Answer key generation
If your PDF has no answer key, the first attempt asks AI to generate one. The key is saved permanently, so the next student to solve the same exam reuses it without burning AI cost.
3. Explanations on demand
On the results screen, every wrong answer can be expanded for an AI-written explanation grounded in the original PDF page. Click once and the reasoning loads.
Resilience: we use a fallback chain across multiple Gemini model versions so a single model outage does not block your exam. If Gemini is fully unavailable, the system can optionally switch to Claude for PDF analysis.

This is a general overview. SAT Reading & Writing shows a passage on the left and a single question on the right; SAT Math shows a figure, equation, or table (or just a question stem). If the display looks wrong, use Show page to view the original question in the PDF.

- Bluebook – Application branding and link to home.
- Module title / Directions – Active SAT module (e.g. R&W Module 1) and dropdown for instructions.
- Timer & Hide – Countdown for remaining time; Hide to conceal the timer.
- Highlights & Notes – Highlight text or add personal notes.
- Desmos calculator – Built-in graphing calculator on SAT Math modules.
Left Panel – Passage, Figures & Context
- Purpose – Shows the SAT passage, table, figure, or equation for the current question.
- Highlights – Highlight key sentences in the passage just like the real Bluebook.
- Show page – Opens the original PDF at the relevant page when you want to verify the question as printed.
Right Panel – Question & Answers
- Question number – Current question position.
- Mark for Review – Flag the question to revisit before submitting.
- SAT badge – Indicates which SAT section and module you are in.
- Answers – Pick A–D for multiple-choice or enter a numeric value for grid-in.
Footer Bar
- Username – Displays your user ID or username.
- Question X of Y – Current position in the exam; click to open the question grid.
- Back / Next – Navigate between questions.
- Submit Module / End Exam – Finish the current SAT module or submit the full test for a scaled score (400–1600).
How to Use the Platform
Step-by-step guide to browse, upload, solve, and share exams.
Browse
View all published exams on the home page. Filter by SAT section (Reading & Writing, Math, or Full Test) and click Solve to start.
Upload
Go to Dashboard and upload your PDF. Follow these steps:
- Pick the SAT subject (Reading & Writing, Math, or Full Test).
- For Full Test: choose adaptive mode and optional M1 cutoffs.
- For single-module uploads: enter the question count.
- Drag and drop or click to choose the PDF.
Solve
Pick A–D for multiple-choice or type a numeric value for grid-in. Use Mark for Review and the question grid. Finish each module to advance. SAT Math has a built-in Desmos calculator.
AI scoring
If your PDF has no answer key, AI generates one when you first complete the exam. The key is saved permanently for future attempts.
Publish
In your Dashboard, toggle Publish on any exam to make it visible on the home page for all users.

For teachers and institutions
Teachers create classes with join codes, assign MCQ and FRQ exams or resources, set due dates, and review per-class completion analytics. Institutions receive org-wide reporting across teachers, classes, and students. Institution accounts are provisioned by our team — email info@apracticexamonline.com to request access.
Individual teachers can sign up as a Teacher and start creating classes immediately.
Is AI scoring accurate?
AI multiple-choice scoring is highly reliable for cleanly worded questions but is not infallible. We are honest about its limits:
- SAT Math questions with complex figures or diagrams carry more risk of extraction errors.
- Low-resolution scans, skewed pages, and handwritten answers reduce accuracy.
- The “Show page” button always opens the original PDF page so you can verify the question as printed.
- For high-stakes review, cross-check answers against the official answer key when one exists.

PDFs are stored privately. They appear on the public exams page only after you explicitly toggle Publish. You can unpublish or delete at any time. See our Privacy Policy.

- No. AP Practice Exam Online is an independent educational tool. We are not endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected with College Board, SAT, or the official Bluebook application. The interface mimics Bluebook so practice transfers well to test day.
- What SAT formats are supported?
- SAT Reading & Writing modules, SAT Math modules (with built-in Desmos graphing calculator), and full Digital SAT tests (4 modules). Adaptive Module 2 routing is supported in two modes: non-adaptive and six-module (M2 easy + M2 hard variants).
- Are grid-in (Student-Produced Response) questions supported?
- Yes. SAT Math grid-in questions get a dedicated numeric input with a keypad, decimal and fraction support, and tolerance-aware grading.
- How is the SAT score calculated?
- Section scores (Reading & Writing and Math) are approximated on a 200–800 scale using your raw correct counts; the composite is a 400–1600 total. This is an approximation of the College Board scoring algorithm and not the official equating.
- Can teachers use AP Practice Exam Online for SAT prep?
- Yes. Teachers upload SAT practice PDFs, publish them, and share the link so students get a Bluebook-style digital practice run with instant AI scoring and explanations.
- Which AI models are used?
- Google Gemini is the primary model with multi-version fallback. Claude is supported as a backup provider for PDF analysis on busy days.
